GPS fix issues?

Newbie
Am I the only one who is absolutely fed up with losing GPS signal for navigation. I was hoping it was just google maps, nope, Waze does it as well. Anything gps related functions like garbage as it never gets a lock. Updated phone earlier and still the same issue. Tried the figure 8 fix as well and nothing. Please help, had the same issue with my note 5, my note 7 fixed it...then well...yea. I'm ready to throw this phone.

Having a possibly similar issue...

Note 8, 1 week old.
Create a route navigation in Google maps. Hit start

If: phone SCREEN is on:
everything works fine

If: phone screen goes off:
exactly 64 second later I receive an audience 'GPS signal lost'. Within 2 seconds of pressing power button (right side of phone), phone acquires GPS signal again.

I've verified this 'GPS signal lost' with 4 other GPS applications. Exactly the same issue.

If toggled (one at a time) on/off, or other selections
Location accuracy high
Lock screen immediately with power button
Time of screen timeout
Restarted phone
Uninstalled all 3rd party GPS applications

Also though, maybe this is a legit issue of bad GPS...

Troubleshooting proceedure WITHOUT moving phone at all.
I installed a GPS monitoring app that reports accuracy on the notification screen, so no 'unlock' is required to turn the screen back on...
Start a route. (Google maps)
Pull down notifcations.
Verify GPS accuracy is acceptable (it's is, around 22m +/-).
Stare at phone until screen goes dark.
Wait 64 seconds... Yup. Signal lost.
Press power button.
Before I can read the screen, GPS audio navigation resumes and I see normal readout from GPS signal notifcation from 3rd party app.

Pretty frustrated here.

Without moving, go back to Google maps (screen will stay on this way).
Waited 5 minutes, everything worked. Put phone in my pocket, screen facing away from me, without touching any buttons or the screen. Went for a bike ride through a winding turn-turn-turn kind of route. GPS audio directions worked perfectly. As long as the screen is on.

Any ideas? Anybody?
