GPS for Galaxy S2

What or how do I use the GPS on my Galaxy S2 that uses the GPS saved on the phone as opposed to using the GPS settings on the phone that actually uses the roaming data.

I live in Canada, going to Buffalo this wknd and want to use the GPS but don't want to have the phone roaming for satellites, location, etc - I heard there was a way to have everything actually stored on the phone itself.

Greetings Harper77,

Funny, I was reading a thread about stopping Goggle maps from updating, and came across this post...

I uninstalled Google maps because it was eating my data allowance.

I now use Maverick with Mapnik maps. It's a great app that will cache maps to your sd card. You can scroll through and cache maps on wi-fi, then you don't need a data connection when you're out and about.

Google have now blocked the use of their maps on this app!

I'm not sure, but i think that Google maps also allows you to cache to your SD card as well. Don't quote me on that though, lol!

P.S.

The receiver looking for satellites doesn't incur any monetary fees. What will cost you a bundle of loot, is when your phone connects in roaming mode while trying to download the current maps.

Hope this helps.

Your post is a little confusing. Are you wanting to use a navigation app for getting around or driving to your destinations or ?

On google maps, you can pre-cache areas to your phone using labs>pre-cache map area.

Sorry - sometimes I confuse myself too :D

Wanting to use the GPS app while driving but without the phone having to use data. When I enter into the states I am putting the phone on Flight Mode so I don't get hit with roaming fees.

Basically, is it possible to save map info onto the phone ahead of time then just work off the phone's memory of saved maps.

Best would be to use a car nav app with its maps pre-installed on SD card.
But car nav apps like Navigon or CoPilot are high-priced (for one trip by year ? ;) )

So try low-cost car nav 'NavDroyd', maybe it's good enough :)
You have to download the USA map on your SD card (free OpenStreetMap).
