Help GPS Problem

Hi on my Galaxy Ace S5830i, it seems my GPS is working in a weird way.
Before, when I switched GPS on, the icon would come on and flash but now it seems that when the GPS is on the icon is not there flashing but will only come on if I use Maps or any other apps that use GPS. Likewise when I switch the app in question off the GPS icon stops flashing and disappears even the the GPS switch is still on.

Its as if the phone is turning the GPS on and off automatically depending on the apps I am using. If this is a battery saving thing is there a way to change it as it never use to do this.

But that is a good thing, it saves battery, gps is connected whenever it is required it, it does not stays on all the time and drain power unnecessarily.
Why would you need it to remain connected all the time?

Its not that i want it on all the time its just i noticed it now works differently prior to when i had this phone from new. But i agree it is a good thing.

thats how it works on all 3 of my droids.
its enabled in settings, and fires up when a app needs it, as maps or other,
and turns off when said app closes.
