GPS - Turn by turn, without on the fly download

Hi all,

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Spica/Lite/Portal that will hopefully be updated to Android 2.1 in the coming weeks.

I understand that Google Maps on 2.1 supports turn by turn navigation. However, I am looking for a turn by turn sat nav that downloads the maps prior to travel if at all possible.

I'm going away to a country that my Garmin doesn't have maps for and I don't really want to pay the sort of prices that Garmin charge for maps. I'd like something on my phone, but I don't want to have to pay roaming costs to download maps as I drive, I want them to already be there on the SD card if possible.

Does such an app exist? Are there any that work with 1.5 if I can't upgrade mine to 2.1 before my trip? (I don't want to flash using Odin if I can help it)

Thanks

You can use Copilot 8.. older versions are compatible with 1.5... you can also try Igo MyWay.. it worls with 1.5 as well. Both of these programs store the maps on the SD card so no need to download maps on the go.. which is why real navigation users don't use it. Would hate for you 3g to die out the middle of woop woop.. then you would wish you had something else.

Thanks, but CoPilit seems to be a very expensive app, and judging by the comments on the market, it is the Marmite of Sat Nav apps.

Loads seem to say that it works well, loads seem to say it doesn't work at all and there is no support so I don't want to spend

hi kingdave,

I've registered in the forum just to answer you... I guess I have a good tip for you.

get nDrive it's 3mb and it's for free.
then inside the app you can full download (buy) the map to whichever region u want...
but now comes the best part.... you can download a 7-day trial of the map...

so u can download it the day before ur trip and enjoy the map for free (unless u'r spending more time, then I reckon german would be around
