Hello techmommie. Welcome to Android Forums. I've not used the places app so I'm not going to be a big help. You will want to make certain that you have GPS enabled for the app. Beyond that I haven't a clue. We have an area here at AF for general Android questions that I suggest you check out. I'm sure the good users in there will know more about your places app and can better advise you.
