Help gray comic strips

ratv8

Newbie
I'm really old school, and get a mess of comic strips emailed to me every day from gocomics. All I get when I open the email on my Mezmerize is the title, author, and a gray box where the comic should appear.

Checking out the forums here, I downloaded the droid comic reader, and apparently can't figure out how to use it. It just asks me to download a bunch of funky anime-type junk. I still just get a gray box when I open my email.

Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do to read my comics? I can always go to the website and plow my way through it, but that's a royal PITA.

Which email app are you using ?
I get comics mailed by Go Comics too
K-9mail and Gmail both show the images clearly .
Did you click the "Show pictures " in the email app ?

If at first the image doesn't appear from your phone, try opening it from a computer. If the image shows, then it should be able to show on your phone. As karandpr said, make sure you click "Show Pictures" before scrolling down to view the email.

Thanks for the reponses.

Karandpr--I'm not sure how to answer which email app I'm using. It's a cox.net address, the phone goes out every 15 minutes or so and pulls the emails from cox. I see no "show pictures" to click on.

Never thought of actually using the gmail address. I just set it up because it was required for the phone. I'll give that a try, but I view it as a work-around. The last thing I need is another email to keep track of...

The only reason for the Gmail account is because the phone, itself, is a Gmail associated device and requires a user account from the Gmail server. I never really played around with the other emailing application (I'm guessing you're using the one who's icon has a envelope with a yellow letter coming out of it) so I don't know much about it. But perhaps try pressing the menu button on the phone (lower left-most button) and see if there is an option for pictures there or in the settings menu.

K-9 is a third party app that you can download from the Android Market. It compiles all emails you receive from any addresses you own into one big inbox.

Thanks, Matt. I figured that out after my last post, just hadn't gotten back on to update. I appreciate the help.

Wonder how long it will take before I get stumped again with this thing? Still liking it much better than my Windows HTC this replaces. So much more user-friendly and definitely faster.

That's what we're here for. :)

The Mesmerize is definitely not a beginner Android phone, but its certainly not the most advanced. It is in the top tier for performance phones, though. I haven't owned (nor will I ever again) an HTC phone since my TouchPro. Windows is a great OS (operating system) for PCs in my opinion, but not much else. The Android OS was designed to allow developers to extend their skills beyond PC platforms and on to mobile platforms.

I'm very sure that you will continue to enjoy the features of Android phones. Should you ever need any additional information you can always ask here. :)
