green light or red clock next to names on texting screen

my boyfriend and i have identical droids...on the text messaging screen, where it shows the names of the people you have sent texts to, there is a green dot or a red clock beside the person's name on his but not on mine...it seems to be some sort of tracking because when i my phone is in use his phone shows a green dot beside my name, and when my phone is idle his phone shows a red clock beside my name...what is this, what does it mean, and why does he have it and i dont??
 
Do you have "use my location" checked in the privacy settings and "use wireless networks" and "use gps satellites" both checked in locations & security. Make sure your syncs are on too, including the google sync.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, are both your settings the same? You may have turned off a reporting feature off somewhere.

Unfortunately, I don't have any android friends to show as online, so I may not be of much help.

Are you sure you aren't looking at the Google Talk status?
