Groove IP and Virgin Mobile Minutes Checker

I am a bit confused with the Virgin Mobile Minutes Checker app in combination with Groove IP. Does it display the number of minutes even when I am making an outgoing call through Groove IP and NOT through my mobile network?

AFAIK, the app pulls your minutes used from your VM acct, so it should only be showing what you use on the network. I don't use any VOIP, though, so I could be wrong, and an easy way to be sure would be to compare the # you get from the app to the # you get when you log into your acct on VM's website.

Exactly. I wondered this, too. The checker does show your minutes used on the VM side, but it doesn't rack up or show the GIP minutes, so don't worry.

I thought it was odd to see calls from Grooveip in my call history

Why? You made those calls. GIP integrates with your contacts/address book. I think I would be confused if it did not keep track of my call in call history.

I am a little confused. I thought making calls from Google Voice uses your real minutes? And I thought you can only make free calls from that Google Talk Plugin. How does GrooveIP bypass all this?

If you use Google Voice to forward a number to your cell number, you are answering with your cell number and therefore using minutes. GrooveIP uses the Internet to make calls, so if you have the app you can receive calls either through 3g or on Wifi, thus not using any minutes.

Ah I see.
