Help Group chats appearing separately

This started happening randomly this week. I don't remember updating my phone.. but all of a sudden instead of a group chat being a group chat, it's being broken up into multiple conversations... not per person.. but randomly. the same people will appear on various ones... its completely arbitrary. I have group chatting enabled, and have done the usual troubleshooting. Does anyone know wtf is going on and/or how to fix this?

What carrier do you have? This has been happening to me with Verizon using their stock messaging app. I'm probably going to download a new messaging app from the Play Store as there are a bunch I've been wanting to try. Maybe try the same?

It could also be a matter of recipients accidentally replying to you or replying individually and not replying to the group. In this case, there isn't anything you can do since the result is intended and the sender is just not sending right.

Try Google Messenger. I have tried Hangouts, Textra, Chomp and some others and always go back to Messenger. It's simple and quick. My only gripe about it is is the lack of customization but it works and works well so I stick with it.
