On my GS3 this was working fine untill yesterday, but it has now decided to keep the screen on untill i turn it off via the lock key. The screen will dim out, then the little eye will pop up and then the screen goes bright again and stays like that with the little eye popping up all the time and just keeping the screen on when I'm not even near it!. Oh and I've tried factory resetting but it's still doing it. I've been running JB 4.1.1 for a few weeks prior to this happening by the way. Any idear's guys?.

If you have smart stay enabled, try turning it off for a while, then turn it back on.
I know it is a stretch, but are there two dots in the room it can see, thinking it may be eyes?
Good luck!

Firstly, Thanks for the reply.

secondly, "dots for eyes" I don't think so! anyway, I'm not sure what the range of the sensor is, but wouldn't have thought it would be very far?. I have noticed that if I cover the front came lens with my finger when the screen light's up and keep it covered, then when the little eye icon pops up again the screen will go off, but If I don't cover it then the screen stays on.

My dog gawking at my phone will keep the screen on because of Smart Stay.

Same problem here. The Note II just keeps the screen on all the time just laying flat facing up. Argh. Had to turn Smart Stay off.

If you actually read the note about smart stay, it's designed to use the camera to detect when your liking at your phone so the phone will ignore the screen time out settings incase your reading a long article or watching a movie.

In short, it's doing exactly what's is meant to do. If you don't need it, turn it off.
