I found this application, gsyncit, that does a good job of syncing Outlook with Gmail. It provides two way sync'ing of contacts, calendars, tasks and notes. Best of all, you can set it up to list your contacts last name first. Once in Gmail, the data is pushed to my Incredible.
I found the setup to be a bit cumbersome - a wizard would have been nice - but once I got through it everything worked well.
App is $15 with a 5-day money back policy. I only have a few hundred contacts so I can't say if it will work for those who have thousands of contacts.
