Help GTalk running constantly on Acclaim

I recently purchased the Acclaim and immediately noticed that GTalkService self activates and runs constantly. I have signed out of chat in GMail, turned off Auto sign-in in GTalk settings and force stopped GTalk in App Manager. Does anyone know how to disable or stop GTalk from self activiating? I have stopped short of attempting to remove the app for fear it will interfere with other operations. With all the permissions listed in App Manager, does this bother anyone else or am I just paranoid on top of being smartphone challenged.

Talk, as it is called, is a pre-loaded application, so it cannot be uninstalled. The Google Android team wrote this to be constantly polling for new messages. It runs all the time, kind of like BlackBerry's Messenger Service. It uses very little data unless a new message comes in from one of your Talk contacts.
