Gtasks Syncing duplicates in gmail tasks

I manage all my tasks from my android 2.2.1 which is synced with gmail tasks. The problem is that there are numerous duplicates in my gmail tasks and they are not updating when I complete or delete a task from my android. Gtasks has also been force closing on me more and more recently. I've searched online for a solution, tried refreshing the tasks in gmail tasks but the problem is still there. Is there anyone who can help me with the problem? I do need to maintain a sync for back up purposes and it would be helpful to be able to manage my tasks from the pc as well.
