[GUIDE] How to Install firmware(1.5/2.1) on your Galaxy

When the phone boots, you should see No service (top right) change to T-Mobile, and a number of bars.

In this example we can see icons reading left to right for

Wifi
Mobile Phone signal strength. (1 bar)
Battery Strength
Time.

Do you definately see these?

yeah it says t mobile and the signal strength goes up and down there is also the 3g symbol and i can connect to internet. i have tried my sim in another phone and it works so must be the upgrade

Remove and re-insert SIM card. Give it a bit of a wipe. Perform a factory reset,

Menu
Settings
Privacy
Factory data reset.

You lose all data on the phone, but this can be put back. SD card data remains untouched.

If factory reset does not sort it, perform the firmware update again.

Just like to say thanks to those in the forum keeping this information flowing.

My son wanted 2.1 on his UK t-mobile galaxy portal.

A quick re-cap of my steps for those that are nervous. (i'd never done this for the galaxy portal/spica before). Based on reading the threads so far.

1.Removed all previous samsung apps & samsung named drivers via uninstall programs - on 32 bit win7 home premium with all latest updates.
2.Installed latest Kies (was v1.4) from samsung to get latest usb drivers, closed Kies after it started up automatically.
3.Run odin 4.03 with spica.ops that came with 4.03 and all firmware files from I570EXXJE4, setup odin , then connected phone in download mode (vol down + camera + power off)
4.failed - hung after flash with phone exclamation mark
5.removed battery
6.run odin again with spica-jc3.ops and all firmware files again just in case, then connected phone in download mode (vol down + camera + power off)
7.success

Could probably have skipped 3 and gone straight to 6 to avoid hung phone problem.

All together took about 10 minutes.

well i took my phone into Tmobile who sent it off for repair and it seems i now have a new phone lol. i updated it to the newest firmware last week and its all going good now

I ama bout to try this but nps prompts me to update nps, but the update takes forever, about an hour got me a tiny percentage of the update. any ideas? is it really necessary to update nps if you are going to use the unnofficial update?

hi guys i bought a brandnew spica and is already in 2.1 eclaire so i assumed that it is an official update. .but my bluetooth is still not functioning. im planing to flash my phone with the unofficial 2.1. is it possible?

Windows 7 64 bit wont ID the phone, only the SD card. Even when I installed PC Suite (or tried to) I got tonnes of Driver 1 to 8 errors.

So how does one successful boot the phone into modem mode and/or in a way so Windows 7 will recognize it, not just the SD card?
