Before you root your device, make sure you have adb and fastboot set up properly on your computer. You can probably follow steps 1-5 from this guide to set them up: http://androidforums.com/awe-all-th...orkmod-recovery-stock-recovery-root-easy.html

1. Download PhilZ recovery here: Dev-Host - recovery.img - The Ultimate Free File Hosting / File Sharing Service
2. Download Superuser from here: http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip
3. Open up a command prompt where you downloaded the files
4. Type "adb reboot-bootloader
without quotes" (At this point, your phone will reboot to a black screen with the red light on)
5. Type "fastboot boot recovery.img"
without quotes (If you are using linux, you may need to run the command with sudo) (You are now in PhilZ recovey if successful)
6. On your phone, select "Install Zip"
7. Select "Install from sideload"
8. On your computer, in the command prompt you had open earlier, type "adb sideload
Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip" without quotes
9. When it is finished installing, your device should now be rooted!

Note: I prefer to use this method of rooting, because you don't need to install any extra apps on your phone or use any exploits. It also installs just Superuser.apk and the su binary.

Thanks for post, however, I think the links are down. Also, do you have a resource on getting adb/fastboot? The thread you posted also assumes you have it already . thanks for your effort

The links are working for me. Also, the step 1 in the link i posted "Install PDANet on your PC" sets up adb and fastboot.

Just rooted using your guide, read alot of wierd stuff about the kingo exploit. Wanted to say thankyou for such a detailed and structured tutorial.worked like a charm

When I try d/ling from the link I get a site advisory message and something tries to add adware to my computer. I would really like to try rooting this phone but I got to be safe about. You got a safe link to d/l PhilZ recovery?

Devhost is safe...the adware is mobogenie i believe. Just deny it. And if nothing else use the droid to dl..

With the sideload do you have to add where its installing to?

Couldnt get that part to work had to reboot phone copy file to sd card
and install with recovery but got it done

I had unrooted my phone to wait for the new update, but forgot I didn't have a computer to re-root my phone. After about 5 minutes I found out that there is an app the will root our phone. Its called root master, if you get the latest apk from their site, just search for root master on google, it will have you rooted it no time. After it roots your phone just install supersu then go get a system app uninstaller from the market to uninstall their superuser app they install and you are all set to go. I used a few root apps to confirm root and it does work. Be safe and I take no responsibility for exploding phones.
