Root [Guide]Using Android system recovery <3e> for newbies (Included with device by default) and QUESTION

Using stock recovery :

NOTE : The following steps below won't work if you have ClockWorkMod.

I've figured out that you can open Android system recovery 3e with the following steps, it's preinstalled on Pantech Breakout...

  1. Turn off your phone
  2. Once off, hold the search button and hold the power button. Keep holding the two buttons till you get an Android minifigure with an updating picture.
  3. Once you have an exclamation mark next to an Android minifigure screen, press the Menu key (The button with the 4 tiles)
  4. You're in recovery.

The recovery menu basically has these options :
reboot system now - Reboots your phone.
apply update from sdcard - It seems to let you manually install software updates or something but has been said to flash roms before.
wipe data/factory reset - Obviously wipes all your data and factory resets.
wipe cache partition - Not sure.
backup /system - Makes a backup of your /system/ to sdcard/b_system
rooted - Tells you if you're rooted or not.

QUESTION :
Is it possible to flash BreakoutRoot.zip (mtmichealson's root method) via Android system recovery 3e?

The thing is, there's an option in the recovery menu called "apply update from sdcard" and essentially lets you choose a .zip to apply.

I'm wondering if I could use BreakoutRoot.zip (by mtmichealson) and this could root my phone without having to get ClockWorkMod. I've heard this can flash ROMs and things like that before.

Does anyone have any idea?

Using clockworkmod is much easier, and I don't think the stock recovery will let you install anything that's not specially signed. Just install cwm, it's useful in other ways too. Also: for clarification, "wipe cache" wipes the /cache partition on your phone, which you should do before installing any roms. It is where apps and other things store their caches.

I like the way phone has buttons and screen when u recoverz. how i recover the screen icon of my game Real Razing 3? I want statz and game data back. stupit update removed it.

Either I am an engineering student that works with Android at MIT, pretending to be a stupid teenager with a fake facebook, or my comment is all legit.
