GVoice Users check me on this

Ok, so I have a VZN voice plan that I can add 10 non-network #'s to & all calls to or from them are no additional charge.

I added my Gvoice # to that.

I forward my Gvoice # to my Verizon #.

If I now have EVERYONE call my Gvoice #, does that mean that all incoming calls would be free, even if I don't use the Droid GVoice client?

Or do I need to test this & get back with y'all?

Yup! I've been doing this already :)

ARE YOU SURE? I mean Verizon can detect if it's a forwarded call. Have you traced this through a bill yet?

And I'd think you'd have to config GV to show it's number and not the true incoming number and I wouldn't like that.

IDK but will keep an eye on it.

NOW, setting your GV # and then calling it then making an outbound call through the menus (please not while driving) should = unlimited free outbound.

I hadn't gotten that far yet. That's freaking awesome!!

As to the forwarded bit - I *think* that vz only cares where the call was just prior to getting to you, not how many forward hops it made before that.

Now all I need to do is make it so my caller ID always says my GV info no matter how I dial out from my droid.

I don't know. Is it based on caller ID or based on the actual number called? This has to be tested. There's away for instance with GV to reveal the true # of a blocked caller ID (don't ask). So if that number can be seen by GV then it can be seen by Verizon and THAT'S what matters.

So my guess would be that these incoming calls would not be free but I don't know.

And don't forget to forward your unanswered calls to your GV from your Droid and that way ALL calls go to GV and not VZW VM. That gives one inbox for voice calls AND transcribe for cell phone calls too.

Instructions on GV site.

And of course the Droid has support to spoof your caller ID so it looks like outbound calls are coming from your GV and not ur cell #.

FINALLY, I setup an SMS app called "Unavailable" that replies to any text msgs sent to my mobile # telling the sender to only send to my GV #. That trains them so I can get all my SMS on my computer through GV website which is gnarly.

so... to verify this, couldnt you just look on your "myaccount" page on verizonwireless.com or via the app on droid and find out for sure if you're using any minutes....?

be nice to know for sure if this actually works by someone validating it.

Verizon Friends and Family = Free Calls?? - Google Voice Help

It will work, but you have to change your GV acct to NOT forward the Caller ID as the previous poster about Caller ID info was correct.

And found this tip:

oh btw..

If you'd like to have your contacts in your phone auto dial for u do this..

yourgooglenumber"TT"2"TT"phonetocall"#"

Do that in ur contacts without the " " and it'll dial for you :) btw T is a pause, encase its different on ur phone

It works been doing it for two years. If you can live with caller id showing as your google number incoming is free. Gv dialer will allow free outbound without hosing your address book. The gv app dials some weird number but is nice for vm and Txt.

Is the pause symbol done by phone or by carrier?

If it is done by phone, what is the pause symbol for the Droid?

Pause and wait characters are different by phone.
Samsung Alias used a w for wait (or maybe all phones with that verizon software)

For Droid:
(comma) , is 2-sec pause
(semicolon) ; is a wait (for sound at other end?)
Hit the menu softkey in phone dialer to add them.

Example: Voicemail plus password 1234
*86;1234

Settings -> Call settings -> Voicemail settings -> use physical keyboard to change
Now you can tap the voicemail notification and do nothing until it is time to hit 7 or 9.

I'm a big GV fan. To pull off the Friends & Family trick for incoming and outgoing you may want to add two numbers to your any 10:

1. Your Google Voice #. Incoming calls to your GV number will be free. Also, if you dial off the web (the Chrome extension is awesome.. just click a phone number on any web page)... your phone will ring from your GV number. So, some outgoing calls will be free.

2. Your Google Voice outdial #. If you dial into Google Voice and then manually enter a number, this is the same as #1, above. If you use an app like Google Voice for the Blackberry, this number is a different number. Try dialing through the app and note the number that was dialed. This is a number you want to add to your any 10.

HTH.

people get confused when they have to send MMS pics to a different number. If only GV allowed this?

I use GV and although the number will be different it will say the persons name. I think it gets that if you have their number in your GV contacts.

Im going to go check out how to get this favorites thing on verizon. Currently I'm on page plus cause there is just no way im paying $100 a mo for unlimited everything when it only costs me 40 on PP
