Handcent and Messaging App both displaying notifications!

I love Handcent.

Not so much Messaging App. I have the notifications disabled in Messaging App, but the damn thing is still doing it! I want Handcent notifications as they will also go away once you tap them to read the message, but the one from Messaging is remaining even after I click it to see the message.

Not a huge issue, but something I would not mind fixing.

I have the native messaging service alerts set to off, and Handcent alerts are all I see. I honestly don't recall (other than going into the messaging app) how I got there, but it wasn't hard.

Search this forum. I know I found the suggestions here on how to do so.

Just got into Messaging (the native app).. click on Menu. Click on Settings. Uncheck the "Notifications".. its the second check mark down. If you need to .. reboot your phone after this.

going into messaging is not helping folks. Sucks as I tried it already per my first post, although I did they Cirga's suggestion and tried rebooting after setting it off. No luck, is there some other program that could be displaying the notifications on behalf of Messaging App?

Any ideas? It is annoying, believe me. After I get a message and read it I have to go BACK to the notifications panel and clear it out as it will not auto clear. If it did, I would not be so annoyed by it really.
