Handcent notification problems

I've had Handcent sms app for a long time and never had any problems, I love it. But with the newest update it has begun playing a long anoying song when I get an sms, even though I've set it to a normal single sound. I've tried reinstalling it, but it doesn't help. Can anyone help me? Or recommend another sms program, just as good. Thanks

1. Go into Notification settings in Handcent and make sure that you have the tune you want there, do not change it in the general phone settings under Sound & Display.

I assume that you have notifications in the standard Messaging turned off, but if I were I would recheck that.
