Handcent SMS, changing notification sound to my own

On HTC Desire 2.2.

I want to change my text notification sound to one I have made myself and is stored on my phone as an mp3.

When I go to select the sound all I get up is a list of preintsalled sounds. I know you CAN do it cos my current sound is also one I've made myself. I can't find any way to choose from your own sounds.

Now either I'm being completely stupid and can't see it for looking. Or that option has disappeared over the last few updates.

Anyone help?

Please! :)

Have you copied the sound you want into the notification folder on your sd card? You won't be able to select it unless it is in there.

e.g sdcard/media/audio/notifications

or change the last from notifications to ringtones if you want to have it available as a ringtone

No I haven't done that. I shall try it. I hadn't done it with my current notification sound though and I was able to select that.

Thanks

** Yah that worked fine,. Cheers mucho gracias!

Download sdrescan from the market for future use, when you put a file on the SD card, run sdrescan then the Desire will see it be it wallpaper, audio files or documents. I noticed when I wanted to change ringtones it wasn't finding my file until I used sdrescan.
