Lets face it: the stock messaging app for Android is pretty terrible. It lacks plenty of features we became so attached to prior to our smartphone infatuation.
Enter Handcent SMS. First, and what I believe to be one of the more important feature, is the apps 'pop-up' notification when you receive a new text message. We're all pretty much used to our screens lighting up when we receive a text message, and being able to view it quickly and respond just as fast is immensely useful.
The second major feature this application offers, is the ability to mass-text. You simply select the new text button, click contacts (which merges your Facebook and stored contacts together conveniently), and select everyone you want to text. Simple, and quite necessary for scheduling get togethers, meetings, etc..
Besides these must-have features, the app also touts the ability to change the notification LED color and trackball lighting (if your phone supports it), as well as giving you an insane amount of customization options for conversation styles and colors.
In conclusion, this should be the first app every Android user downloads, as this is how the stock messaging program should have been.
