Handcent - Won't send long texts

I have an HTC Evo and my wife has the Galaxy S II. We are both running Handcent 4.0. Ever since the latest update, she is unable to send texts that are longer than 160 characters, but mine send just fine. I've looked at our settings, and both look identical. Any ideas? Morgan

I haven't got Handcent installed on my phone. But look through the settings and check for an option that auto splits long texts. GSM networks do not have this limitation but CDMA does. Text messages cannot be over 160 characters long. When I tried to send long texts I was failing with GO SMS. Looked through the settings and found a "auto split long texts" option. Turned it on and everything went back to normal.

Good luck.

I think you misread that...my HTC works, her SGS2 does not.

Ah.....oops!
Well had it been :D:D. Fresh out of ideas.
I have the updated Handcent on both my phones and it works fine, I particularly like how easy it is to do mms through it.
Gave a phone to my great neice and we can not get mms to work through normal chanels, but she can send through HC and even without having the app on her phone I could use HC to send a picture to her. She was unable to receive pictures the normal way, same for me when I had the phone, I didn't know about HC then.

Just got done texting her. She has it installed and says it works perfect.

So if your phone will not mms for any reason try Hand cent. It seems to do mms over data very well. Again on the short text issue, I wonder if it is a setting issue, but you have probably looked in settings by now.
Hope you get it figured out.

i used handcent for a couple months on my droid x, and could NEVER get handcent to download mms messages. i had to go to my stock messaging app EVERY TIME. it got very annoying, very fast. i checked all my settings and even uninstalled and reinstalled. still nothing. i even emailed the developer with no response. a few months ago i switched to go sms pro, and haven't looked back. it downloads mms with no issues. and has much more features, support, and customization. also has an option for splitting messages for cdma. ditch handcent and give go sms pro a try!

Contrary to what some people will tell you, not every android app will work on every android device.
Sorry that it did not work for you, but it works perfectly on my LG Thrive, Samsung Exhibit 2 and the HTC Aria that I gave to my great niece.

There was recently a update for handcent and it fixed that. My epic touch was doing the same thing

I have an SGS2 Epic Touch and love handcent.

Under Application Settings the last setting says "Thread Group Conversation". This will allow you to group chat with people, including Iphones. So in the past when a friend with an iphone sent out a group message i got it, hit reply and only went back to the creator, now it replies to the whole group.

The split 160 setting is under "send message settings". I have mine set to "don't split" and with the Thread Group Conversation turned on I never have an issue sending any size texts....

Please dont forget to Thank me if you're reading this and it helped you!

I just purchased the Samsung Galaxy S 3 and in Handcent, under Settings, Send Message Settings, for the Split 160 setting, I have marked "Don't split". However, the messages still split, even splitting in the middle of a word. Hoping this will be corrected in an update, whether it be from Samsung, Android or Handcent. Or if anyone has a better idea, I sure would be interested. Thanks!

As a default, Hancent will split messages over 160 characters, however as I was using this app on my Galaxy SIII, I went on settings and enable the characters counter and realized that special characters as
