Okay - I've been using Google Voice to text... but it's really been buggy the last week and I'm not getting or being able to send any messages on my phone.

Does handcent work in the same way as GV? Gives you a phone number?

Or how does it work exactly?

It's just a very customizable replacement for the stock texting app, no phone number.

Handcent is just an alternate SMS program. You just text with it. No phone number. Almost like your stock messaging app except you can customize it.
