Does anyone use Handcent for their messaging? If so is there a way to attach a different sound for a contact when texting?

I am not sure it is a handcent thing, it might be but i enjoy the stock messaging app, but from my experiences when i used GOSMS back in the day there was no notification sound for a specific contact.

generally if you search all through handcent and cannot find it, chances are there isn't a feature to do that.

Affirmative. You can set tones for sent and received texts. And you can import tones into the phone library and pick from them. That's in general. Not sure about different tones for different people. But there's probably a special app for that.

Yes you can do it in Handcent. Just bring up the person you're txt'ing to, and hit the the setup icon in the upper right (guy with the Config wheel). From there, you can customize the tones on a per contact basis.

I don't use Handcent, but I use LightFlow to customize my notifications, that might work for you as well
