Help Hangouts with lg tablet

I have an lg g4 tablet from t-mobile. I want to use hangouts as my default sms application, but hangouts does not show up as an option when I try to change the default. Nor does Hangouts give me an option for setting it up as my default sms app. I can send "hangouts messages" and use "hangouts dialer" but no option for texting. I also have a samsung s5, same provider, hangouts works fine for sms on my phone.

How can I change the default app? I would like for texts sent via hangouts to appear on both phone and tablet, or at least be accessible from both. How can this be accomplished?

I don't think you can set a default sms application on a tablet. Doesn't it just work as a messenger? Hangouts on your phone just uses your carrier service(pretty much the same as using the stock texting app but with the messenger aspect).

Hangouts can send sms when you combine it with Google Voice. Are you sure that is a tablet? I did not know there was a G4 tablet out.

Sorry. It is a "G Pad F 8.0" not a G4. I have hangouts and google voice/hangouts dialer. I can send a hangouts message or dial phone number, but unlike my other devices there is no option to use hangouts as an SMS app. The tablet will allow me to change default SMS apps. But Hangouts does not appear as an option for SMS, as it does on my phone. I

It is because it is a "data only" device. Tablets do not have the same functionality as a smart phone. You can't make calls or text in the same way you can on a smart phone.

Not sure if this will help, but I know that Yahoo Messenger, also for Android, has a "send SMS" option. I'm not sure how well it works because I have never used it myself, but I know the option is there for sure.
