Happy Lefthanders Day!

I've always been a droit with my left hand too :).

I think apart from handwriting and sports (tennis in my case), many lefties can be flexible with their right hand too.

I knew the case of Rafael Nadal and he is just super special imv.

Obviously, as this is among lefties, we know good looks come with the package; we've just learned not to antagonize rightees by pointing it out. :D

I think it's worth noting that five of the largest participants on AF, four of which are moderators, are left handed.
That's a far higher percentage than the normal left to right in world. It strikes me odd. I'm certainly good with it.
Where would AF be if not for those lefties?
I wonder how accurate the stats on that are seeing as well into the last century lefties were often coerced into being righties.

Lefties rule!!

When I was in kindergarten, I asked to use the left-handed scissors but the teacher refused. They had them right there in the box (green handles) with the rest of the scissors (silver handles), but she said I had to learn to use my right hand. I mentioned it to my mother and she calmly and coolly accompanied me to school the next day and with great restraint proceeded to rip the the whole staff a new one. It was glorious! :D

i have tried many times to practice throwing a ball with my left...

so bad.. so sad...
cant be done.

I write left-handed, but am fairly ambi with a lot of things, so "left-biassed ambilateral" is probably the best description of me. I'll usually place a cup or glass to my left, use a spoon or chopsticks with my left but knife and fork conventionally (early training there, I guess), but when using tools I'll tend to use whichever hand gives me easiest access. I swap mouse hands every now and then to reduce the risk of RSI.

Some people have found it odd to watch me swap screwdrivers, hammers or drills between hands and carry on working. Mind you, I find it weird to watch people who normally hold a knife in their right and fork in their left pick up the fork with their right hand when they aren't using a knife (because to me if you are used to using a fork in the left surely it should be easier to carry on doing that? I guess this is because I don't have the experience of being so lateralised that it overrides practice).

Writing is about the only thing I can "only" do left handed. I did write right handed for several weeks in my youth when I broke my hand, but I don't think anyone would qualify that as successful.

Oddly, the only things I do naturally right handed are firearms and bow and arrow. Even handguns. I've been told that means I'm right eye dominant

I write, throw, shoot, use tools with my left hand almost exclusively. I even kick a ball with my left foot. However, I do two things exclusively righty ... swing a golf club or baseball bat, and play a bass/guitar. Ambidexterity means to perform the same task with either hand, but I seem to be exclusive to one side or the other. Primarily the left side, but some on the right. Is there a name for that? (other than f%^54ed up?) ;)

Makes sense to me: I'm right eye dominant (the technical term is "cross-dominant" when you dominant eye and hand are on opposite sides), so also do those things right-handed(*). And tend to use pool/snooker cues right-handed for the same reason, though I swap if that is more convenient for the shot.

(*) Yes, I have used handguns, despite being British, though not for a few decades.
