Happy New Note 4

Just upgraded from my battered well loved s3 to the note 4 and am very impressed. Bit of a treat i dont normally pay that much but new job means i earned this treat.

Need to look into a case for it of course so looking through amazon. Any tips would be apprciated. Nothing to bulky but with good protection all round.

My only complaint is the notification pull down is a bit cluttered, wouldve been better to be able to take off s finder and quick connect, probably the brightness option as well. But not major. Also i've discovered Quickpic doesn't work well any more with the sd card problem, never liked the stock gallery but will have to get used to it.

any hints or tips would be appreciated, and if anyone knows a better gallery that does work. thanks!

The only case related tip I can give is that the Verizon version (for some stupid reason) has one of the bottom microphones moved 1-2mm to the left. From what I've learned, it's a Verizon request...and it makes shopping for cases a major pain in the ass. Some cases are aware of this spec difference, and offer an elongated oval cutout for that mic, while other case makers either don't care, or don't know...and provide a single round hole which doesn't align properly.

If you have Verizon, keep this in mind when shopping, and try to look at pictures. If you don't have Verizon...then any case would fit, and I feel that color and style take precedent to function for the most part. I have a white phone, and want a white (or clear) case. If the most protective case on the market doesn't come in white, I don't buy it. Also, I don't particularly like slick cases. The size of this phone was an adjustment for me, and I found that holding it in one hand is workable, but I need grip to ensure it doesn't slip out.

So I'd recommend a case that has a style you like with some silicone, or other TACKY grip on the back.

I personally use the Speck case that looks like this (paid $20 for it on sale at Best Buy, not sure I'd pay $40 which is what they want today). The raised silicone provides ample "grip". I am however in the market for a sleeker case...one without all those raised silicone ridges...perhaps clear.

I tried two so far, the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro and a generic backshell/holster reminiscent of the "mini suit" case I had for my iPhone (the single piece backshell type with tire tread patterb looking grooves, black).

I've gone back to the Supcase as this case was the only case I found so far that has the port covers for all exposed ports, including the S-Pen. I did however modify mine by cutting off the port cover for the micro usb and removing the junk plastic screen protector on the front face plate that caused a whole lot of Newton's ring...

I love the Supcase for the fact that it has uber cushioning on the corners, protects the camera lens, and it has nice grippy feel so it'll reduce the chance of it slipping out of my hand.

The mini suit type that I have is sleek and slim, it protects the camera lens well, but the corners are a bit under protected, and the tpu has a bit of a slick feel since the tread pattern does not continue onto the sides...

Regarding the cluttered notifications. If you root your phone and install Wanam Xposed there's an option to remove S Finder and Quick connect
