Help Harassing Updates

So I made the mistake of updating the phone the first few times, I updated at 2am before going to bed and wake up to another update.

I disabled the app updates long ago and update when I feel like it, how can I get rid of this crap every time I unlock my phone?

I'll probably have to root the device but any info would be appreciated.

Can you not delete the update from the Settings, then download it later when you want? And have you turned off the automatic download of updates, or are you using one of those phones where a carrier has removed that option?
