Rolling out an OTA to the States before we get it in Britain is a good thing surely? Let them test it to make sure it works properly before giving it to us. I think that is a good thing myself.

I think so and at the end of the day are we really missing out on anything spectacular? In my personal opinion, no we aint. It will come who knows maybe waitning a bit longer we may get more?

I agree about waiting for an improved update, but as I understand it we will not be able to get paid apps untill we have had the update.

its a bit of a shame that we are having to wait mind, especially as Android seems to be coming out of London, and not SanFran

It may come as a surprise, but the main centre of mobile applications for Google is not in Mountain View. It is in London, at Google

i heard some one in windsor receved the update yesterday, and i have had txt after txt of tmobile so this could be it lads lol

we are, im not saying im frustrated just yet, but i will be if people in uk sart getting it and i dont lmao.
its the same case for films.

One of the things that gets me is that the update isn't anything to get too excited about anyway, but you can see in the news that the new Android HTC Magic phone will be getting alot of the cupcake elements (onscreen keyboard, video etc). By the time WE receive the RC9 update there could be people using the new HTC phone that has alot of the things we have been waiting for, but won't have!
After seeing the videos of the new HTC Magic I think the RC9 update is a bit lame now.

I said it before on another thread and still want to be wrong but I really don't think we will get all of the features of cupcake and that it is being reserved for newer handsets.

Prove me wrong Google

Why shouldn't we get all the features? In theory one could programm and flash thier own android (Its Open Source, remember?)
I don't think they have any reasons to withhold any features to anyone.

Simply? It would entice more people to go out and buy the G2 or any other Android handset. I know Vodafone would like that.

In what way does the HTC Magic (G2, Saphire, whatever) differ hardware wise from the G1, appart from the screen and keyboard?

Again in theory it's open source, your missing features?
Do it like JK (JesusFreke) and compile them into the OS.

They can't hold any (software)-features back, because it's too easy to reintegrate them from the branch back.

so are the current custom firmwares usa (dates/numbers) only or are there any uk ones available?
seems if google are only going to keep the USA constantly updated then the community will have to support itself perhaps this is what they (google) intend.
its a hell of a lot of work to make different versions for every country.

What? disjointed sentences need explaining

If you mean people compiling features back in themselves and loading custom FW then seriously how many people know or indeed want to do that. People on communities like us are a small portion of the handset buying market. The majority just buy what they see and then wait for the next version.

I know what you mean, I really want the update mainly to go on latitude =]

I still have RC8 and I think most othr people in the UK do too

=\

We won't have to wait much longer for the Uk update. T-Mobile have pushed the update to 1,000 Uk G1's at random and will push it to the rest of us when they are happy that it is stable. This is the information which has been given to T-mobile employees to pass onto customers if asked. Shouldn't be long now. :):):)
