Help Hatin' on OTA updates!

(new to forum and been searching all night - please move to correct section or HELP!)

I have done everything, i think nearly everything the internet has to offer on this subject of MTP drivers failing to install for Sprint Galaxy S3... the worst part is ive had this happen before <smh for not solving this time>

(I think my final fix last time was a different PC, not so easy this time around) - so looking for other options....

My " MTP USB Device" & My "Samsung Mobile MTP Device" drivers fail to install.

I dont have any upper or lower filters to delete, I have done the registry hack for wudfsrv (changed to 2)

I have done the MS fix it for me tools, I have uninstalled and re-installed via device manager even the USB serial bus controller, I have tried to pick between 4 different MTP driver versions in the dev mgr (manual mode). And downloading drivers from Samsung's website as well as googling other MTP cab/inf packages.

All just straight up fail to install or I get a (code 10 error: The device cannot start)

Google results on this seem like a very generic error.

Different USB ports, in a powered hub (and not) different ports on it too.)

Tried Samsung Kies new install and its driver re-install tool.

Cannot select the USB mode on the Sprint SPH-L710 as the device has become soft-bricked from an OTA update via Sprint/Samsung or Google. I recall this happened when Kitkat was pushed out to me...same softbick....after what looks like a successful install the phone reboots and is hard-locked on the Samsung splash screen.

Last time i was able to connect via Odin, and re-flash the stock KitKat Rom

I've tried the factory reset in recovery mode (with & without being connected to PC) = no joy.

I figure im gonna have to re-flash it again but can do crap until i can get it connected via USB.... any other thoughts???

This is a fairly fresh Win7 x64 ultimate install.

Welcome Brock!
I've moved your thread here to the Android News and Talk forum as I'm not exactly sure this is device specific.
If it happens to be, well, then we can move it later but for now, more eyeballs will see it here:)

I do NOT think it is device specific.

My Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate (Verizon) has never, ever, connected to a PC and I have tried a whole slew of them things. I've tried it on 5 or 6 laptops of different brands, multiple desktops of different brands.

bought new premium USB cables, and did everything that you wrote about.

None of it ever allowed me to connect that thing to a PC so that I could do backups locally.

fortunately, the only time it ever received an OTA it went well, and it has run just fine for 4 years now.... it is still in service, just pushed down to a family member with a lessor need of the internet.... for phone calls, and SMS texting, it is just as fast as my Galaxy S5.... for random Google searches, it works just fine....

but hook it up to a PC, ain't gonna happen in this life.
I gave up on it long ago.

SGS3? You tried Kies 2.6, not the 3 version?
Originally no version 3 was used, but WTH uninstalled 3 (deleted save file), installed 2.6 = still no joy and after the failure I get a message from 2.6 that my device is not supported.

IDK may have to try find another pc, if all else fails take it to sprint I guess.... the thing is I am near contract end and they are likely to want to go ahead and upgrade / replace but not sure if i want to go with sprint again.

I dont do any custom roms, only root for like titanium backup / misc apps that require root.....Do i need to unroot in the future before applying OTA updates or am i just unlucky twice?

I can't give an opinion on that because I'm an HTC user - take an OTA on a rooted HTC and you've the devil to pay.

Probably been two or three years since I rooted a Samsung and these things seem to vary by make and model. And the time before that, I went through 3 laptops trying to get the Samsung usb drivers to work, so I definitely understand your pain.

Wish I could be of more help.

Maybe try surfing the various S3 root forums could help? I hope to think that someone has been in your shoes and found a solution.
