Help Having probems transfering number on Straight talk

I hope this is the right place to ask this if not I apologize. I recently bought a ZTE z797c phone from a friend at work I have straight talk for carrier and this is a straight talk phone. When I called S.T. to have my number transfered to this new phone they told me I would have to take it back to Walmart yo have the ups number rescanned so I take it back to the store to have it scanned and they won't do it with out a receipt for when it was purchased. Obviously I don't have that and the person I bought it from don't have it anymore. Really don't understand why they need that the phone was never even turned on. I was told that it could be done on my end if I have both phones with I do. If anyone could help me out with this I would really appreciate it. THX in advance and I hope I posted in the right place if not I'm sorry I'm new to all this

If these phones use SIM cards there's no need to transfer your number. Just put your SIM in the new phone and you're good to go. As long as the IMEI number of the new phone is not blacklisted you should have no problem.

Is the phone you purchased from the friend the one that was never turned on? Meaning it has never been activated on straight talk? The phone you mentioned is the Zte Quartz which is a CDMA (800/1900 bands, Sprint base perhaps) phone. You can transfer your service to the new phone through http://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/home/h/a/options/phone or by calling them. If the phone has been activated prior I would assume that the account which it was activated on must be terminated before you can transfer your service to it. Because customer support told you have go back to Walmart to get it rescanned there might have been a mistake during check out( it was not properly scanned.) I've seen it mentioned a few times where Walmart does not scan the phones properly and people are out of luck without a receipt.
