I noticed some people were having issues with Google Play returning RPC S-3 errors on the KitJelly ROM, and Android 4.4 KitKat in general, so I thought I would take a moment to explain why users are getting the error, and the methodology of fixing the issue.
Note: Results may vary depending on device and configuration. In most cases if one method doesn't work, move to the next method. Please do NOT send me a PM asking me why x method did not work.
On that note, let's begin.
What you'll need:
- Your Google Account (it is necessary for the second method, not so much for the second)
- Decent working knowledge of Application Manager within Settings
- Common sense (I say that because occasionally something will go wrong)
Method A - Little more difficult, results may very
- Go to Settings
- Scroll down and click on Application Manager
- In Application Manager swipe to All
- Scroll down until you find Google Play Store, click on it
- Scroll down and click on Clear Cache (or if you're inclined, Clear Data)
- Back out of that and click on Google Services Framework
- Do the same process as before and Clear Data/Cache
- Reboot the device (perform a Full Rebopot, NOT a Soft Reboot)
Method B - Easier to do, generally fixes most issues
This method requires you to have your Google Account credentials, if you do not remember them, you can get that information from Google.
- Go to Settings
- Under Accounts click on Google
-- If you have multiple Google Accounts, identify the one you use for Play Services
- Click on the account and click Remove Account (at the bottom)
- Now go through the instructions for adding your account as if you were setting it up for the first time
- Reboot your device (in this case either a Full Reboot or Soft Reboot would suffice)
If you have any legitimate questions, please post them here. Keep in mind this only addresses RPC S-3 issues, nothing else.
Good luck!
