Having trouble transferring files to my pc

Hello,

I recently purchased a new Android 9 phone. With my previous Android 9 phone, I would transfer files and videos to my Windows 10 laptop via USB cable with no problem. But when I connect my new Android phone to my laptop, in This PC, it shows the phone folder, but when I click on the folder, it is empty. When I do the same thing with my old phone, it shows all of the documents and videos. Is there an adjustment that I need to make here?

Once you connect your phone to the PC, pull down the phone's notification shade to the USB File Transfer line. For some reason, Android wants us to select USB File Transfer AGAIN. So you can select "transfer photos" or something and then select "USB File Transfer" again. After that, open Windows Explorer and all your phone files should be visible.

I transfer files throughout the day from/to my Android devices and computers--and I haven't used a cable in eons.

There are numerous ways to transfer files without cables. If you're interested, let us know!

As chief mentioned, once you connect the cable, you have to select how the connection is treated. On mine, for example, I must go to settings > bluetooth and device connections, and there I'll find a new category for USB connection. By default, it's just a charging connection until I change it hope this stuff helps.

I'm looking for a way to move all my photos onto my PC. I was setting up to use Bluetooth, but I could not find a way to copy more than one file at a time, and I have several hundred to handle. (Moving would be better, but copying then separately deleting the source files would be okay.) Any suggestions?

Yep! Use a file manager.

If your Android device and computer(s) are on the same Wi-Fi network, it's a trivial task with a good FM; my favorite is MiXplorer Silver. I move files around all day, to and from various Android devices and Linux computers. Piece of cake!

Please see this post for more info. Basically, your computer has to be set up for networking, i.e., you must 'share' its hard drive(s) and/or its external drives. Then, via Wi-Fi, you simply use a FM to move files in either direction.
