Headlamp or penlight, which light is better for camping ?

I am going to a camping trip next month and I want to buy a camping light. Convenience and light weight are the most important features , headlamp or penlight, which is better ? Which kind of camping lights are you using ? my friend are using the heavy professional camping torch, but I don't want a heavy one .

I use a headlight, The four or five LED lights are very bright and use very little juice, and leaving both hands free is a real bonus (I like to roll my smokes ;)). I tend to put penlights down and then can't find them in the dark lol.

You would get more opinions in the lounge (this is the apps section)

I never cared for lightweight if I'm out doors at night. I always used the large, long flashlights because I wanted something I could use as a weapon in a pinch. I don't trust outdoors at night.

In that case, I would suggest a light sabre :D

No brainer: headlamp. Leaves both hands free to do...whatever it is...you need to do with them without trying to figure out how to hold on to a flashlight at the same time.

There is a really good headlamp at target made by eddie bauer. i have a couple. they are great. i like that particular one because it has the three settings but it's not real big and bulky and doesn't leave a mark in your forehead and it's pivotal, not all are.

When camping, Having a few lights is a good idea. I have a Fenix TK11 for the "Around the camp" light, as it gives out about 80 lumens on low, and about 240 on high. I use a Mag light 2D LED, as a "Back up" light, and a generic LED cap mounted light for use when I need both hands free.
