Headphone Control for LG G2

I am a long-time iPhone user who has just converted to Android with an AT&T LG G2.

I quickly discovered that my iPhone earbuds would not control my G2, as Android phones are not compatible with iOS-specific headsets.

I am looking for a three-button wired headset that can be made to behave similarly to the iPhone headset controls. Basically, I'd like to easily be able to:
  • Control volume (up and down)
  • Select track (next and previous)
  • Pause/Play track
  • Launch Google Now for voice control

I bought a pair of Alpatronix EX100 three-button headphones from Amazon, and tried out many of the headphone control apps available on Google Play. The best was Headphone Button Controller, but unfortunately, I could not get it to work consistently between all audio apps. For example, it wouldn't play/pause in some apps. Or I would be in one app, and when I pressed play on the headset, it would play music from another app.

Can anyone recommend a combination of headset and app that will work reliably on the LG G2?

I tried the Jays Headset Control app today in conjunction with the Apple iPhone buds, and the pause/play "sort of" works, but that's it. No volume control, no ff/rw. I say "sort of" because I was listening to the Pocket Casts app, and hit the middle button to pause. So far so good. But then I pressed it to play again, and the phone started to play the DoubleTwist app's music instead!

Anyhow, as I understand it, the iPhone buds can't be used to their full capability due to patent issues -- Android uses a different standard.

Does anyone have a particular combo of buds and app that work really well?

Hi Davidlawrence,

I actually just answeered to the same exact question in another part of the forum.

The iphone and android smartphones can use 3-button headsets but as rthey use different voltage you may not get full function if you use the iphone. What you need is a Made for android headset with 3-button and I did a great deal of research before finding any as they are scarce.

The App is only there to support any programming of the button (usually only center button is programmable) so tjat will not solve the problem for iphone version headsets either.

I myself is using the Degauss Dual Driver headset Made for android. Im somewhat of a music noob so I wanted the best, but they do have a range of 3-button headsets starting at 25$..
