Help headset recognized when not plugged in

jbable

Lurker
My phone shows the symbol that it detects an external headset, and does not allow me to hear it. There is nothing plugged in. I tried plugging in a headset and then unplugging it, but it does not help. Needless to say, I rebooted by turning the phone off and on a number of times

My phone is a Razr hd xt925

Please help

Just my thinking, which could also be wrong...

If a headset actually works when plugged in, then the problem is not hardware. It's software, so a factory reset may be in order. Before going to that extreme, try running in safe mode. If things are back to normal in safe mode, then an app is misbehaving.

Try, very carefully, cleaning the jack. There may be something stuck in there that is making a connection. Use rubbing alcohol, just a dab on a bit of clean cloth. Worth a shot anyway.

Thank you for the help. The unit corrected itself spontaneously after a few hours. Weird! Perhaps it was moist from the humidity..

Oh well. It is nice to be a member of such a good forum. Motorola has not gotten back to me as yet, and I already have 2 helpful replies here.

Humidity/moisture is not a friend of a phone! Glad it's working again. Stuff does find it's way into those jacks/ports all the time, it's just the nature of the beast. I do a little vacuum of mine periodically.

Oh and, welcome to the forums :)
