Headset wont let me answer calls

my question is my head set jack works but now i can't hit the button to answer or hang up or to start my music it was working yesterday now today it not working for some reason but when i put my headset in my mom phone the button starts her music and ends calls what can i do and my phone is a HTC ONE V CARRIER IS CRICKET PLEASE HELP

FYI, most microphone headsets only work with iPhone hardware due to their microphone and ground being switched. If your mom's phone is an iPhone, this makes perfect sense as to why you can hear music but not stop it or answer calls or hang up.

Your best bet is to purchase an Android certified headset.
