Help Hello from NZ + a question: connecting to PC?

Hi, I'm typing this from Brooklyn, Wellington, New Zealand.
I'm a complete novice as far as cell phone technology is
concerned, so I hope my stupid newbie questions will be
tolerated while I come up to speed.

I have an IDEOS U8150 SmartPhone in conjunction with
a PC running Slackware Linux. My Q1 is: do I need some
additional driver (either on the cell phone or the PC)
to make the connection (via the microSDHC card). I've
made the hardware connection to the computer USB port
but the PC does not respond.

Thanks all,
Wootle.

Hi Wootle,

We just bought an IDEOS U8150 over in Lower Hutt and are figuring out how to use it. Very limited info provided with the phone and nothing available on their website. They don't even specify what type of microSD card. I didn't know there were several types, or speed classes.

Looking for more info I found and registered on the forum this morning and I noticed you mention you are using a microSDHC. So how did you know to go for one of those instead of just microSD? What class is it? I saw Class 4 and Class 6, or is that irrelevant?

Cheers, Paul

Hi Paul, a micro SD card = Standard. A micro card SDHC = High Capacity. Transcend have a 64GB Micro SDXC Class 10 Ultimate card = Extra capacity and Ultimate Price. It's worth looking at www.transcend.com.tw Cheers Neil.

Hi Nedd, my message to Paul was to get him to look at Transcends web site so that he will get a clearer picture of what the Micro SD cards are classified as.
The higher the Class number - the better the quality and price of the card.
Yes, I am aware that Huawei suggest up to a maximum of 32GB Micro SD card. Essentially, the amount of storage you personally require on your phone is what will determine how much you spend on a card and it's capacity. Cheers Neil.;)

Thanks, I sorted it out months ago. I went ahead and bought a 8Gb microSDHC card (Class 4 IIRC).

Cheers, Paul
