Help help, 2 year old reset my phone

HELP my two year old got hold of my phone and did a factory reset via exceeding the maximum allowed unlock attempts. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4, it wiped my while phone AND my SD card. is there any way to recover this data? ? I had my contacts and photos backed up that were on my phone but I had photos and videos on my SD card that were not backed up. why would or wipe my external SD card?

External sd cards are straightfoward to recover. Remove the card from the phone (so that nothing else is written to it). Buy a microSD card reader, plug the card into a computer, and use any files recovery software. If you use Windows I'm told that Recuva is good as well as free (not a Windows person myself), so no need to spend a lot of money on this.

Stuff on "internal sd card" could be recovered the same way if the S4 lets you mount that on the computer as USB mass storage. It won't work over an MTP connection though, which is the norm with Android 4 or 5.

As for why, sounds like your kid triggered a security wipe. The idea would be to stop a thief accessing your data.
