Root Help - Blank screen even after Wipe/Factory Reset

retrolab

Newbie
I was updating to the latest version of Froyo and the cable was accidentally disconnected

Now the phone is unresponsive after the Galaxy S splash screen. I found out about Recovery Mode (Power+Home+Volume Up.) I formatted the internal card, applied a wipe/factory reset and then I rebooted but the phone still remains blank after the Galaxy intro.

I had a micro SD but I removed it before doing any of these. What steps do I need to take to get it working again? Any help is appreciated.

The site has details on how to do it, just make sure to follow it step by step. Make sure to read all the how to before flashing, if you don't feel like you can do it, I would suggest taking it to a Samsung repair center and they can do it for you.

The directions I see there are about flashing the phone but I don't see anything about installing the firmware. I downloaded I9000UGJL2 from the site you provided but I don't know how to apply that to the phone.

Anyone? The guide says to load a '.tar' file in ODIN but the files I have are:

cache.rfs
factory.rfs
modem.bin
param.lfs
zImage

That's because you unzipped the tar file itself.

The file you downloaded from News - www.SamFirmware.com is a winrar file. Unzip that. Once you do, do not unzip its contents again. You should have anywhere from between 1 to 3 files. (And judging from the content of the tar file, there was probably only one tar file in that rar file.) You also need to download a 512.pit file from the website. It's under flash tools (same section where you found the odin program.)

Put the tar files in their respective boxes. PDA to PDA, CSC to CSC, Modem/Phone to Modem. And of course pit to pit. (If the unzipped winrar file only contains one tar file, that goes into PDA. Leave modem and csc blank.)

Usually there's no need to tick repartition, but since you messed up your previous update process, tick it for this time. Leave everything else alone. Now put your phone on download mode and plug it in. If you plugged your phone in before starting Odin, it might not register your phone. Flash.

EDIT UPDATE: Ok I tried again and this time it worked but in Odin it says "Reset!" and on the phone it is in recovery mode. I rebooted the phone and after the Galaxy intro it's back to the black screen

it may take up to 5 minutes to reboot;)

if not, reflash firmware with ODIN and let it go.when it says reset and phone reboots, simply remove the cable

It's weird, ODIN then reads PASS! ...and after download mode, the phone goes to recovery mode. When I unplug and hit reboot it again goes to a blank screen after the intro. I'm about ready to give up but thanks for everyone's help.

Ya man, once I have that Pass message in Odin I leave the phone to do it's thing which, after the firmware update, goes straight to recovery mode. With the SIM and external sd card still removed I hit the reboot option in recovery mode where it does the intro and then the black screen which I leave on. After 30 mins I touched one of the buttons and it lights up and stays on - that's same thing that happened before I applied the firmware

EDIT: Even weirder...now when it's now disconnected and I try to go into recovery mode I get a phone icon on the left and a computer icon on the right and an exclamation/warning icon in between. The only option is to go into download mode but now Odin Fails the firmware update saying "Can't open the serial (COM) port. wth
