Help! Former 4 Year Iphone/itunes user just switched to ICS 4.0 with Nexus!

AlldayKK

Lurker
Okay hey everyone. I have used Iphone ever since the original came out. Back when it came it out it was great, I believe it was a true revolution for "smart phone" technology. Now I have been trying to keep in the know and all though the Apple "complacent" user base is MASSIVE (ie. "I already have itunes and all my music, so Ill just get the new iphone" or "I already know how to use it so ill just stick with it") and I have discovered that Android phones seem to have REALLY surpassed Apple in terms of sheer hardware by far, as well as software and other such things.

So i made the switch! First day switch to Galaxy Nexus on Verizon when it launched on the 15th.

So far I love a lot of what I have seen, but so much is foreign to me. I know once I get some orientation and some info on android I will be able to utilize and harness its real potential abilities, but I need to know where to start.

I would really appreciate some info, perhaps from people who once used an iphone?, as to what I should be using.

Things I miss, is there a replacement or equal on android?, if so, best option or solution:
1. Whenever I access the website soundcloud.com from my nexus device, I can start the tracks but can never stop them, the music will not stop playing no matter what, even tho the page is not frozen and I can select anything else, even if I unplug headphone jack sound continues until I close the webpage, never an issue on iphone

2. My filthFM app doesnt work at all, upon booting it crashes, everytime regardless of how many reinstalls I do. On iphone this also worked perfectly, this is perhaps however the app creators fault?

3. Google Music: Just download the "Music" app from the marketplace, sinc all the files in there, anything else just move the mp3's to my nexus "music" folder? Is that about the jist of it to replace Itunes for good? or is there more to it?

4. Notes. I didnt see any note system built onto the nexus. The iphone always had a pretty sufficient notes app built right in. I frequently need to take notes in order to remember things and organize days. I downloaded a "notes" app but it is of terrible quality with advertisements among other things. Is there a good solution for this?

Other than that, is there any more info you guys can give a former Iphone user current Nexus user to get the optimum experience and performance from this device?

What apps to use and download? What features are especially useful or just awesome?

Really looking forward to some help and feedback! Excited to be in with the Android!

Congrats on your Galaxy Nexus. The best way that I know for music management is iSyncr to sync directly from itunes. Then I use PowerAmp for the player. The latest version of PowerAmp seems to leave out some songs in the playlists. The way around that is to delete all playlists, then import system playlists from the settings menu. You should have all of them as you found them in iTunes.

For notes, I find Evernote to be very good. I'm sure there are many great options in the market.

I don't have filth FM. But its latest update was in March 2011 which means that it is probably not ICS compatible until the developer updates it.

I find most Google apps to be excellent. Especially Gmail, Maps, and Navigation. Whatsapp is a good IM app, Go SMS/Handcent for SMS, K-9 mail for email other than Gmail, Soundhound/Shazam for music tagging, Yelp, mVideoPlayer supports subtitles, Gmote to use your phone as a remote for iTunes, Dropbox, 3G Watchdog, Aldiko, Beautiful Widgets.. etc. Those are among the apps I use most often.

Not huge on games, but I got Sentinel3 while it was on sale and it's worth the money. XDA delvelopers site has lots of info as well. General Android: Android Development and Hacking - xda-developers and Galaxy Nexus specific: Samsung Galaxy Nexus - xda-developers

Why not just use the Soundcloud app from the Market. Seems to wrk OK for me.

Also, +1 on iSyncr and PowerAmp combo suggestion by runlsd to replace iTunes.

Thanks for the help guys! I will use the info you have passed on. Big ups! By the way... I AM LOVING this phone way more than iphone. To me, this truly feels like a mobile computer entirely, surpassing "smart phone" craze iphone started years and years ago. I mean u can dl files from the internet and use them however u like i just found out. Wtf!!!! If only the apple fans could see this, i think theyd agree its time to switch. Keep adding on any suggestins or recommendations. Lets make this as easy for previous iphone users as possible. Cheers
