Help! Galaxy S phone captures MP4(3GP4) - I need MP4(H.264)

I'm at my wit's end trying to figure out a way to play hd video that I've captured on my Samsung Galaxy S Captivate on my Sony 40EX600.

What I have been able to figure out is that the phone stores video in an mp4 container using 3GP release 4 video stream.

The tv can read MP4 H.264

I can't find a converter or an app that allows capture of video on my phone in H.264 format.

Have you run into this?
Can you help?
 
Tried Handbrake - looked promising - but would not recognize the source files.

No title(s) found. Your source may be copy protected, badly mastered or in a format which Handbrake does not support.

Note that these files do play back fine on my phone.

There appears to be little support out there for Samsung's MP4 file format.:confused:
 
Handbrake should have handled that. Are you using the latest version?
Another all-in-one converter is Format Factory.
 
How about DVD Videosoft Free Studio? It has a whole lot of H.264 files - from Ipod up to hi res.
I was playing with it from phone to Sandisk Sansa. 3gp to MP4.

Hi. I have the same issue with Samsung Galaxy S II. I have identified the issue and it stems from Sony not supporting the 3GP4 profile, even though the streams inside are perfectly ordinary playable AAC and H264 streams.

I have send an inquiry to Sony about it.

Meanwhile, there are some solutions, depending on how technical you are:

The easiest solution is to get QuickTime Pro. QuickTime Pro can open the 3GP4 files and save the video and audio into a new generic MPEG-4 file, which should play just fine.

For additional solutions which include hexediting and batch processing, try this thread that I have created at Doom9 :

LOL. I was thinking what has Sony to do with the video format recorded by Samsung Galaxy S2?! :D Then I saw you post at Doom9 that PS3 didn't like the codec...

Anyway, your post sheds some light on the codecs used in SGS2 video recording. It is pity that they use 3GP4 as a codec library, instead of x264, which is more common and probably better.
Not a big issue though. Replacing the library can be done in a matter of seconds.
 
THANKS!! For future google searches, I'll just repeat that this thread helps people with the problem of audio video or audio/video sync for videos recorded with Samsung S2 / android.

What was suggested (and worked for me!)was to Download Handbrake for the pc. Open the 3gp or mp4 file in that, then convert it to h264.

PROBLEM SOLVED (after a week long head banging) - now the video can be played and edited on my computer. :):):):)
