Help HELP: Galaxy S won't start recharging unless I reboot it first!

My Galaxy S won't recharge unless I reboot it first. Without rebooting I can hook up the charger and nothing happens. After rebooting it starts recharging immediately. Its not the wall charger because it does the same thing with my car charger. I googled the issue and can't find anything about this. Everything else with the phone works great.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Thanks very much.
Steve

Model number: SGH-T959

It can be alot of things.
First you should do a backup then flash a STOCK firmware.
That should solve it.
If not then you have a hardware issues and that is only one solution for and that is to send it in for repair.

So the firmware I have on my phone isn't "stock" firmware? Will using a different firmware completely change the look and feel of what is currently on my phone?

Thanks

Well in your sign you have this: Build Number: Nero v4.1 By Team Whiskey
Like I can get out of it is not stock firmware you are using.
Sure a stock firmware is more simple then a custom one, but it should solve the problem you have and I guess that is the main thing you ask for.
When you get your phone working again you can look into custom stuff.

My phone was already rooted when I bought it 6 months ago so I've never operated it with stock firmware. The having to reboot to recharge issue just started in the last month or so. My understanding is that there were issues with the stock firmware that came with the Samsung Galaxy S (like Samsung bloatware, etc.), hence the reason for rooting.

Lol.
Did he you bought the phone from tell you that?
Rooting has nothing to do with it and Im sure your system is ****ed up.
If you want a working phone you need to clean it up.
That means you will have to backup all your apps and other stuff you want to save.
Then flash a stock rom.
Then you have the option to use custom stuff or stay with the stock one.
But I can say if you have used custom stuff you dont want to use other stuff.
But you use froyo now and there is gingerbread out and thats is better in many ways, but it still not as polished that the latest froyo stuff is.
Trust me. I know what Im talking about.
Read about flashing and stuff in the guides here or jump to my site for more advanced stuff.

Its very common that a phone will be cluttered after so long time. all app that is installed and unistalled.
Also some files can be corrupted.
I had my phone about one year now and it most of the time new stuff on it.
But im a developer so its hard to have same stuff on it and I try alot of new rom stuff to.

It turned out to be a battery widget that was causing the problems with charging. I uninstalled the battery widget and then it charged like normal. So here I am 6 months later with another battery widget (that has been on my phone since I dumped the previous battery widget) and now its doing the exact same thing as before where it often won't charge unless I reboot it first. So I deleted that battery widget and now the device seems to be charging properly. Bottom line: This is the second battery widget I've used in the last year that worked great for about 6 months but eventually stopped working properly.
