Help HELP Galaxy S3 will not hard reset?

Hello, I am hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction with my S3... i should say from the outset that I understand next to none of the technical jargon but I will try to explain what happened.

Over the last few days I have noticed some quirks with apps freezing more than usual and then today my phone turned itself off a couple of times.
This evening it was sat charging and when I looked at it the boot screen was showing as if it had restarted but not got anywhere.

Battery in and out several times and soft reset and nothing is happening. Also just tried the hard reset buttons and nothing happens at all when I do home and power and volume up, though the download screen comes up when i do volume down.

I've resigned myself to losing my files that weren't backed up, pics and vids etc, but does anyone know how to actually get the reset to work so I can start from scratch with it?

Thanks
Hannah

First off Welcome to the forums Hannah!

I have moved your thread into the Galaxy S3 forums to receive some better assistance.

Hope this is alright :)

I can't help much but to point out that you need to release the power button (while still holding the home and volume up) as soon as you feel the vibration.

There are some here much more knowledgeable. If nothing else, this will bump the thread. Hopefully someone will come along with more.

Welcome Hannah!
Can you get the phone to boot up at all? There is an option to factory reset from within the OS itself. (menu/settings/backup and reset)

Is there an app that you recently downloaded that could be making it act wonky?

To get into recovery, where I believe you can reset:
Recovery Mode
Make sure your device is completely off
Key Combos: Volume Up + Home
While holding both of them simultaneously press the Power button
As soon as the phone vibrates, let go of the Power button but keep holding Volume Up + Home
When you see the "Samsung Galaxy S III" logo (not just the word "Samsung"), right after that, the next screen you should see is your recovery
Don't let go of Volume Up + Home until you see your recovery
