Installation of TWRP recovery should have absolutely no effect on modems or WiFi. Flashing a zip while in TWRP can potentially do anything

There's a lot of activity going on in the discord channel. If it's eventually possible to root it, then I'm sure someone will build a custom ROM, based on Android P.

I dont have the phone yet. I'm torn between buying this phone and the xiaomi mi max 3. I'm currently researching and being prepared in case I go for the zmax.

I honestly gave up on ZTE devices due to their ridiculous lockdowns.. Now their OS's are extremely outdated & no newer ones have any development capabilities. Xiaomi Mi devices have a ton of development but almost nothing works well at all.. I'd go Motorola, we've been giving and getting lots of love with them. Most Moto's (almost ALL) already have tons of custom ROMs to choose from as well ;) ..
