Help me with Verizon text app notifications interrupting my game

I have a Note 4 running Marshmallow on Verizon. I like to watch my NFL games on the NFL app. I start my game and turn my phone horizontally on its side to take advantage of the full screen and every time I get a text message (I use the Verizon messaging app, not the pre installed generic messaging app) it will interrupt my game and flip the screen to the vertical mode and stop playing my game. I tried an app called "Don't Pause" but it didn't work. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

Do you have the "enable popup" option UN-checked in the settings for that Messaging App?

No, I don't. I guess I should hand thought about using, do not disturb. I've never used it and I'm unfamiliar how it works, but still it's annoying.

turn off Notifications in Settings/apps/app mgr/message

that will fix it forever and ever...
if you really need to get a notification, then after the most important thing in your life, can be restored by going back into settings again.

personally, I hate Notifications, they are all turned off.

Lol, that's the long way about it. I keep all apps notifications off but messaging, I have another messaging app that doesn't interfere with my game.. But yes, I could do that. I do enjoy not being bothered and reply to text when I feel like it.

Okay:

here is an "Automatic Way" to do the job for you.

Install MacroDroid * MacroDroid - Device Automation - Android Apps on Google Play

Trigger: Application Launched ( select your game or video or ?? )
Action: Volume Set
Select Configure and set the Slider all the way to the left. Ya gotta put a check mark in the box.

I use this macro to make my phone dumb as a rock between 2200 hours and 0600 hours.

I use macro droid. I never thought about using it that way. I use it to trigger automatic text when I join Wi-Fi at places. Thanks. I like notifications, I even wear a xiaomi mi band 2 with notifications, I just don't like my game being shut down.
