Help Help! Messaging/email sync issue

I have my messaging widget set up so that I receive all of my gmail messages and the notifications for received emails is fine. However, I also receive messages that I send from that account as notifications and I want it to stop. I looked through the various edit screens but can't seem to find anything that tells the widget to notify only for received email or to stop notifying about sent emails. Can anyone help? I appreciate it.
