Help my friend pick out a laptop

I'm kinda out of date when it comes to PC tech and want my friend to get the best bang for his buck. His budget is $900 and probably no higher. He's looking for a good laptop that will be capable of playing current games and future ones. Looking for i5 or i7 (or comparable AMD CPU) and a good videocard.

Here are two laptops he's found so far:
Alienware is a M11x. Link keeps messing up. Sorry.
HP Laptop

The HP will be around $900 with his company discount. Does anyone know of any other laptops out there that would be a better purchase? Thanks in advance!

The HP looks good, but I have heard bad things about HP build quality
The Alienware link is broken, but it being Alienware its probably overpriced

From what I have heard, it would be best to wait a few weeks as Intel is releasing its new sandy bridge technologies. This should offer some new options for better performance and also drop the prices of what is out there currently.

I think he's decided to go with the HP. I've looked around on different websites and can't really find anything that matches the performance and price of that laptop. Thanks.

HP business class laptops are awesome! Tell your friend to stay away from their consumer grade Compaq laptops. Alienware supposedly makes some awesome gear but they charge through the nose for it...

I'd go with something from Toshiba or Asus, they have the least amount of repairs needed. I have a Toshiba Satellite and it's great.

yeah if he can wait at all...do it. i'd say 4-6 mo would probably be a good time to buy. i personally hate the 15.6" format they seem to be skimping on the screen reso with most of these. the new cpu fab's are right around the corner.....
