HELP!!! My screen has shattered!!

Brandie

Lurker
Hey everyone, I have a Droid Eris and I've only had it since Feb 2010. This phone has always been taken care of properly. I woke up one morning to find that the screen had shattered.

I've gone to Verizon stores, called Verizon, called HTC and called PCD. Everyone says the same thing: physical damage.

I know for a fact that I did not cause this to happen to my phone and I'm trying to get my phone replaced. They say my warranty will not cover the damage.

I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem with their phone? The phone was not dropped and it does get very hot while charging and in use. Though I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with the touch screen or not.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me!

usually what breaks is the crystal covering the screen and not the screen itself. I know that the internet is filled with repair kits for Iphones. try running some searches, as there might be similar ones for your phone. the kits typically include a replacement crystal and instructions on how to do the replacement. Typically that involves removing the upper bezel of your phone, removing the old crystal and installing the replacement. IIRC, for Iphones, these kits tend to run between $30 & $40.

That doesn't look like it was dropped or suffered an impact. The pattern of shatter is too even; a drop would have a focal point where it spreads out. Perhaps you can use that in your argument with them.

Looks like it was a heat break. was the phone left in the sun or on a heat source for an extended time? Iwould take it back to Verizon and argue. Point out there is no impact mark

Is the top surface layer of glass damaged? If the break is on the lower layer, then it clearly hasn't been dropped.

Clearly, what happened here was that you had some very "intriguing" text or MMS messages on your phone that you forgot to delete and your girlfriend strolled through them while you were asleep. What happened after she found them is obvious at this point. LOL

Seriously though, Looks like a temperature change breakage.

I declined insurance when I purchased the phone. I figured I have never had problems with any other phones, that this one would be fine also.

I honestly do not know what happened to this phone, but it does seem heat related to me. Good news though, after enough debating on the phone with Verizon, they are finally sending me a replacement phone!

Thanks everyone for all the feedback!
