This is pretty normal I'm afraid. My app Diction was launched 3 years ago and it is still virtually impossible to search for by name (you just get thousands of dictionary applications). And to make things worse, for some reason Google have decided not to allow you to search within an app category.

Your position in the search ranking is dependant on a few things, like:
  • How many websites link to your app (and how highly Google ranks those websites)
  • How many downloads you have had
  • How many downloads you have had recently
  • Which country the user is in (you app will have a different position in the search results based on region)
But there are probably loads of extra factors.

I think the rational is that most people who install your app won't already know about it, so they won't be searching for it by name - they will use keywords or the similar app links. But it's annoying that it's virtually impossible for your app to spread via word of mouth until it is already pretty popular and has a higher ranking.

Looking at the results I get back when I search for "Need for Feed" it looks like Google are placing the emphasis on the word 'Feed', and they are returning lots of RSS readers etc.. However, I did manage to search for your app using the term 'Need For Feed tappztappz'. If you really need to search for your app by name I think you need to come up with something much more unique.

Think you might need to give your app a unique word in its title, something you invented, nothing else is using that word and it's not in any dictionary, and that's why searching "tappztappz" found it. What about quoting it "need for feed" when searching for your app, although I certainly wouldn't expect most to be doing that. Otherwise "need", "for", "feed" are very common words and certainly not unique.

Unfortunately it seems to be the way Google Play works for ranking apps, and what you might find, and that's it.

Thx A lot for the answer GeorgeN & Mikedt . i've search around the internet and most people found the problem too. only can search by NeedforFeed without space .

I just know that google weight the first letter when user searching not the whole apps name .
i thought the diction is pretty unique name.
but since it is part of the word dictionary , it is very difficult to find it

may i know what is your marketing tips for promoting your apps

i just know these things

1. Make youtube Video & promote it
2. Apps Review Exchange ( from Forum and Facebook group )
3. Ask Friend
4. Press Release
( but i don't know what is the good press release distribution for mobile apps , may i have some suggestion )
5. Blog Review ( I don't know what is the good sites where we can submit our apps for review )

Sorry, I only managed around 7000 downloads in 3 years so I pretty much failed at marketing!

Originally I thought I could make enough money to pay for occasional phones or tablets. So I created 2 versions of my application - one with admob adverts and a paid version with no ads and a couple of extra features. I managed to get 2 bloggers to write reviews and I spammed all my friends on Facebook, posted on app announcement forums (including the one here) and got everyone at work to install it, (basically I did everything but spend money) but nothing much helped.

Of the two versions, the one with ads was way more successful (sold less than 10 copies of the paid version).

Recently I decided to give up on trying to make any money, so I rewrote the app fixing the graphics (number 1 grumble with play store reviewers), removed the adverts and added Google play leaderboards and achievements. But so far it hasn't helped, I'm still struggling to get installs.
